Lizzie’s First Post

Hello and welcome to my blog. I’m new to this kind of thing so please be patient with me!

I thought it would be a good idea to share with you all some of my creations, what I am inspired by, and a mixture of my life as a designer/maker and my freelance career.

If you can excuse me for being a little cliche I would like to share how being creative influences every aspect of my life!

For my first post I thought I would show you my latest project. This is hopefully the first in a series of handbags which links my Degree Show collection, my love of the novelty handbag and the work I have created as a designer/maker. This handbag is inspired by the embroidered button collection.

I thought that hand embroidery would add a lovely dimension to the decoration of this handbag.

The handle running through the lid of the “tin” means the top stays in place.

This bag is inspired by the button tin I inherited from my Gran which I have added too. I also used my collection of tins in my studio and a couple of trips to the V&A to influence the patterns and designs to decorate the outside of the “tin”handbag.

Apart from the lining the bag is constructed using hand sewing.

The lining is made up of appliqué and free machine embroidered “buttons”.

I am planning on creating a handbag inspired by each design I’ve made for my brand. I hope you like what I have done so far!
